Spacious forest tracks, of Buy district numerous rivers, swamps, a small population provided to huge abundance and variety of animals. Among birds and mammals the species connected with forest have been prevailed till nowadays. In the XVIII - XIX th centuries hunting was widespread. As a result some rsre rare of animals have been disappered.
In the XX th centuries new kinds of animals have appeared. For example, in 1936 the Ussurisk raccondog and in 1946 a musk-rat were supplied with our region. These Kinds of animals have become acclimatized in Buy district very good. Owing to an active hunting beavers have disappeared. That's why in 1958 a reacclimatization of beavers has begun. The first 34 beavers were delivered from Voronezh reserve and let out into drainage basins of the Kostroma region and to the Kostroma river flowing through the district's territory. Since 2007 the researches of beavers' population(by the rillage Ugolskoye where they have not been met before) have been conducting by the teacher of Biology V.V. Chukhriy. In drainage basins of the Kostroma river you can find musk-rat too and sturgeon but it's very seldom.
The most typical kinds of fish in our district are: bream, Gobio gobio, Leuciscus cephalus,Leuciscus leuciscus, roach, perch, ruff, pike and many others. Because of the intensive wood-cutter the number of lynx, squirrel, ermine, wood-grouses is reduced. The number of wolves has always been very great. In 1970 wild boar and elk appeared. The world of insects of Buy district is diverse. There are representatives of beetles, butterflies, aragon-flies and others. All of them fulfil different tasks in wildlife; these are: flowers'pollinaters, vermins and predatory animals. They live in aerial, watery and soil environment. Bees and bumble-bees support biological balance in nature: they are the most important flowers' pollinaters. Predatory insects: wasps, dragon-flies, ground - beetles are important number - regulators of other insects. The most famous wood's male nurses are forest red ants distructing a lot of predatory insects. The number of ant-hills is being decreased because of wood-cutter and dense bushes, waterlogged forests, man's destructions and camp-fires. Since 2007 the student of the eleventh grade Varentsov Vyacheslav had been researching the variety of insects in Buy and its district. He has studied 83 representatives from 8 detachments. A collection has been created; later on there will be photo catalogue.
